Hat Etiquette : How To Cover Your Coconut 101

"A hat's not a hat, till it's tilted." were the words of Frank Sinatra, and The Chairman of the Board was perfectly correct, about brimmed-hats. Hats of many stayle have always been in style, but some of the classics are makin' a comeback, so I thought I'd share my 2 Cents on the subject. And, if you've seen my love of headwear, you know I have the goods to talk. Think you know how to shade your knoggin, ....... wanna bet ?!?

When wearing a brimmed-hat, like a Fedora (on Frank in the upper picture) it's worn forward with a slight tilt, the side of the tilt is up to the wearer. They are kept clean and neat, brimmed hats are not meant to have a worn or tattered look about them. If it wears out, and you wanna keep it, buy a manequine head, but don't wear it out on the town.

Baseball caps are one that aren't worn properly today at all. They are meant to be worn straight ahead, a CURVED bill, and a slight tilt, if the player can back up that attitude. You wear one backwards when the time calls for it, WORK, and to catch the sweat, then snap that cap back ahead. This nonsense about wearing it pointing sideways is just plain bad etiquette and doesn't make the wearer look very bright. Also, a baseball caps bill is meant to be CURVED, not flat like some coffee table, I've walked up to young people I know wearing them, adjusted their head, and tried to set my drink on it, reminding them NOT to spill a drop.

A Driving Cap, also known as an "Ivy Cap", is what you see a lot of golfers wear, some forward, some back, it's a casual enough thing to be worn either way, unless in a more formal setting, then it's worn forward so you can tip it, to show signs of manner and respect. It usually has a snap from the bill to the body, and although some wear it unsnapped, it's best to have it connected, as the loose material tends to make the body bob-around when unfastened.

A Duckbill is a facier version of a Driving Cap, as the body is attached directly to the bill. Often they have a dressier tone to them and are more ornately designed. They are typically worn forward at all times, but some modern designers have made some that just look better turned to the back. (as example, my Muppets "Animal" hat)

To Many Warning Labels ; Why isn't "Natural Selection" natural, anymore ?!?

The world was a better place before "warning labels", not safer, but better. Stupid people took themselves out, and the gene-pool was a beautiful water-way in the universe, now it's merkier than a New York City sewer backed-up.

How many times a day do you wish that being "stupid" was a Capital Offense? Just go out for a drive, during heavy traffic, and you will start to be a believer !

Now, let's get something straight up front, I am talking about people who refuse to educate themselves or know better but still do something for sake of ego, attitude or their tiny idea of what humor is, while the rest of us wonder, "wow, now I know why tigers eat their young." (Thank you, Rodney Dangerfield) I am NOT referring to people with "learning disabilities" or who just haven't had the chance at education, but people who have had the chance and seemed to ignore it, completely.

There are warning labels on hair dryers about not using them WHILE showering, warning labels against eating the packets of drying agent in products we buy, WHY ? STUPID PEOPLE ! Comedian Bill Engval made a FORTUNE off of this piece of human observence, and he's 100% right !

Man has interfiered for FAR too long with "Natural Selection", it's called "natural" for a damn reason, these people were MEANT to take themselves out of the gene-pool to show the rest of us how NOT to do things, but look at where society is because of it ? Stupidity is glorified all the time, just look at any wil ferrell or jack black movie, talk about stupidity !

We ALL do stupid things, but BEING "stupid" is a completely different thing, doing stupid things helps to teach us what NOT to do, stupid people keep on doing it, we should allow nature to take its course.

The Gods won't tolerate this much longer, "warning labels" are a CLEAR interfierence in the natural order of the universe, and we must stamp out warning labels wherever and whenever we can !

Y'all have a nice day !

What could have Saved the Arena Football League !

It is always painful for a sports fan to see something great be lost due to egos and greed. Arena Football is a quiet treasure here in America and is deeply cherished by it's fans. However, the encarnation of the Arena Football League that could have set the world of fire, was forced to fizzle out because of egos, greed, arrogance and incompitance. The AFL could have been as big as the NFL, don't believe me, WANNA BET ???

Arena Football is addicte, it's not always the greatest on television, but once you've been, you're hooked. Fast paced, high scores, lots of action, it's higher tempo keeps you up on a higher pace. Not to mention, unlike the NFL, Arena Football is very fan friendly and fan interactive. You're right there, almost on top of the game and the action, you really feel like more a part of the game.

There was only one decent push for the AFL when NBC agreed to carry one game a week and feature it as a big event. They worked out some great commercials with the tv show, Las Vegas, featuring to famous team owners, Jon Bon Jovi and John Elway. They even featured the twos "rivalry" in an episode that lead up to the two teams meeting that weekend. But it takes more than one season and one push to keep people going, if they had tried it for one more year, the send featuring 2 games per week, it could have been far more successful.

The other downfall was the lack of thinking and innovation on the part of those connected with the NFL and AFL. When Emmit Smiths NFL career was winding down as a Dallas Cowboy, Emmit wanted to keep playing, Cowboys owner, Jerry Jones, didn't see it that way. Instead of being creative and stepping up to new ideas they simply got into a pissing match and many suffered their split. Emmit Smith went on to play some forgetable years for the Arizona Cardinals and, I believe, tarnishing his luster in the NFL.

The solution would have been to offer Smith a contract with Jones's Dallas Desperados arena team. "Come on Emmit, you've set every record in the NFL, now come do the same in the AFL and give Arena Football a Superstar to help market the league." Some years later, the same could have been done with Brett Favre and fans wouldn't have to have been put through the painful circus that went on around his last years.

This is another prime example of people, CLAIMING, to be "thinking outside the box", when in fact, they are spending too much time thinking about a "box" that doesn't exist, and never has!!!

Simple FACT, the Arena Football League we had, could have worked and should have worked, it honestly would have been easy. None of what I have said is "Monday morning quarterbacking" I thought of all of this back when the events were transpiring, surely someone else could have had these ideas, why weren't they tried ?!?

Well, there is a new Arena Football League now, and I strongly suggest that people support their local teams, and to HOUND then to try things that will build the league up. Something that could be a training ground for Future stars of the NFL and for the Superstars of today to keep their star shining without tarnishing it in League that has passed them by. Also allowing these veterans to pass down what they have learned and experienced to a new generation.
